God the Holy Spirit-Mystery of Christianity
Power from On High
Today, we continue our series on God the Holy Spirit, the Mystery of Christianity. We started it last sunday 4 June, 2017.
‘All the representations which the Scriptures give us of the Holy Ghost are in harmony with this thought of divine motherhood. The regeneration of the soul is described as a new birth, and the Holy Ghost is the mother that gives us this birth.’- A. B. Simpson from’ The Holy Spirit or Power From on High’
First and foremost note:
The Holy Spirit us for regeneration
Let us examine the dynamic power of God the Holy Spirit. This time from experiential perspective.
First two historical experiences: My Father, a Latin student in Oduduwa college , Ile- Ife about 1937, went to Abata Egba farm stead. There, he was amazed to hear an octogenarian lady, mama Aladalu, speaking correct Latin language at a Pentecostal revival or crusade meeting in the village. My father later in the night, approached the old and fragile lady at her hut, after the meeting for explanations on his Latin home work. It turned out that the old lady could neither read nor write English but was very good at her Yoruba language Bible, leading a very holy life. Mama Aladalu, as she was known, had the gift of tongues.
She invited my dad to come meet Jesus Christ who teaches all languages as gifts. That was how my father joined the Pentecostal movement church in Ile Ife, Nigeria in the late 1930s.
I also recall in Grenoble France in 1978/79, while studying French, with my igbo sisters, at an Assemblies of God, sunday church service, a French man spoke prophesying in fluent Igbo and my sisters were all the more stunned on learning that the man had never been to Africa. He spoke in tongues.
Just look at these Bible passages on the power of the Holy Spirit: Luk 24:49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. The Greek word fir ‘power’ is, δύναμις, dunamis, doo’-nam-is,From force (literally or figuratively); specifically miraculous power (usually by implication a miracle itself): – ability, abundance, meaning, might (-ily, -y, -y deed), (worker of) miracle (-s), power, strength, violence, mighty (wonderful) work. The Holy Spirit is dynamite,The extraordinary power that generates power.
The Holy Spirit is God the producer who sets apart for divine works.
The Holy Spirit empowers or equips you for spiritual warfare to prevail on earth.
Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Rom 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
Hear him, Act 13:2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
Also, Jesus spoke of this power as: Act 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Today, thirty- one years baptized in the Holy Spirit, I can assure you that His in-dwelling makes the great difference in my life and especially ministries. Lead a life of grace and obedience to God, Acts 5:32, ask for Holy Spirit baptism or His in-filling, in the name of Jesus and you shall be filled, as in Jhn 14:26.
The Holy Spirit makes you Christ-like by enabling you to bear fruit of the Spirit unto godliness. See Gal 5:22-23
Are you ready or prepared as a platform for God the Holy Spirit to land and work on? Do you require or want to be equipped with dynamite power to break through?
Do you want to be endued with gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit, today?

God the Holy Spirit-
Today we begin some series on God the Holy Spirit, the Mystery of Christianity
The Holy Spirit is God. He is the third Person of the Trinity. There is one God but in three persons; this is one of the major mysteries of Christianity. Our Faith, Christianity is made of series of gradual and progressive Revelations of God to human beings.
This reminds me of the title of my book published by Spectrum books Ltd in Ibadan, in 2007. The title was suggested to me by a Muslim that I had an evangelistic encounter with at Garki, Area 3, Abuja in 1995/6. He was apparently a salaried Mallam to the maximum leader then.He declared that as for God the Father or Jesus as a great prophet, they muslims, knew more than Christians, but what or who is this Holy Spirit?
He boasted that he could have ‘eliminated Christians as a sharp knife would vegetable but this Holy Spirit, Walahi, is a mystery.’. He lamented that whatever attack he planned, ‘this Holy Spirit will counter me’. He enquired more about this mystery. So I finally answered him in publication of ‘God the Holy Spirit, The Mystery of Cristianity’
In the Foreword of the book, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the General Overseer of RCCG, writes, ‘Indeed, God the Holy Spirit: Mystery of Christianity is a book that I gladly recommend for all Pastors, scholars and especially all who want to learn about God the Holy Spirit. Considering that this is the dispensation of the Holy Spirit, you need to know as much as you can about Him. And certainly this book will help.’
Today, many pastors are so engaged in prosperity, healing, deliverance, etc, that little or no time is left for learning about the third Person of the Trinity and the Carrier of fruits and Power for all genuine children of God!
No wonder, Charles Haddon Spurgeon, regarded as the greatest ever preacher lamented thus, ‘In this age, when the Holy Spirit is too much forgotten, and but little honor is accorded to His sacred Person, I feel that there is a deep responsibility upon me to endeavor to magnify His great and holy name. I almost tremble, this morning, in entering on so profound a subject, for which I feel myself so insufficient. But, nevertheless, relying on the aid, the guidance and the witness of the Holy Spirit, Himself, I venture upon an exposition of this text’,… He was preaching on, THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE COVENANT “And I will put My Spirit within you.” Ezekiel 36: 27 A Sermon Delivered On Sunday Morning: 1856.
For a start, let me serve this appetizer bits on your Sunday spiritual menu:
– The Holy Spirit was at the creation in Genesis, the book of all beginnings. Read, Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
So the Holy Spirit is a creative Spirit as God.
He is a God in Motion. If you want to move, as all living and active beings must in life, then you must receive the Holy Spirit and be filled by Him. Actually, the Hebrew word for ‘spirit’ here is ‘ רוּחַrûach, roo’-akh’ It is the same word meaning, breath, wind, storm. And without air or wind, there is no life! Actually, Adam, a lump of clay, became a’nephesh’, a living soul only when God breathed into him. Read, Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Note that it was after the move of the Holy Spirit in verse 2 that God spoke in verse 3. So if you want to hear God , then you must allow God the Holy Spirit to move in your life.
Actually, Jesus, God incarnate, was’full of’, directed and moved by the Holy Spirit on earth. Read, Luk 4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,…The Word, ‘Ghost’, Germanic origin in English, ‘geist’ for is Spirit in Greek it us ,νεῦμα, pneuma, pnyoo’-mah, From G4154; a current of air, that is, breath (blast) or a breeze; by analogy or figuratively a spirit, that is, (human) the rational soul, (by implication) vital principle, mental disposition,
Jesus declared that God is a Spirit and that if you must worship or honour God, you must do it in spirit and truth. Read, Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. On thus John Gill, the famous Baptist commentator says, ‘ God is a spirit,…. Or “the Spirit is God”; a divine person, possessed of all divine perfections, as appears from his names, works, and worship ascribed unto him; See Gill on Joh 4:23; though the Arabic and Persic versions, and others, read as we do, “God is a spirit”; that is, God, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost: for taking the words in this light, not one of the persons is to be understood exclusive of the other; for this description, or definition, agrees with each of them, and they are all the object of worship, and to be worshipped in a true and spiritual manner…and they that worship him; worship is due to him on account of his nature and perfections, both internal and external; with both the bodies and souls of men; and both private and public; in the closet, in the family, and in the church of God; as prayer, praise, attendance on the word and ordinances: must worship him in spirit and in truth; in the true and spiritual manner before described, which is suitable to his nature, and agreeably to his will.’
Paul puts it summarily this way, Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.Do you want to be a son of God? Then ge led by the Spirit of God.
Jesus actually breathed the Holy Spirit into his disciples thus,..Joh 20:22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
Also Our Lord Jesus warned the disciples not to embark on evangelism or teaching, until they are endured ir clothed with or filled with power from on High, thus, Luk 24:49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
The Holy Spirit helps our infirmities, our weakness, heals our diseases, prays and in fact knows what you should oray for as stated in, Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
We are yet to speak of dynamic power( Acts 1:8) and gifts, charismatic gifts ( 1 Cor 12:1-7) and the sweet and lovely gifts (Gal5:22-23) that tge Holy Spirit adminidters and bestows upon the genuine and obedient Christians as confirmed by Apostle Peter in Acts 5:32…Act 5:32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
Today, are you prepared to know God the Holy Spirit. filled with the Holy Spirit? Do you seek His in filling?

God bless your Sunday.
