THE CHRISTMAS STORY- A BIBLICAL AND THEOLOGICAL APPROACH- PARTS 1-3,
The crucial importance of praising God in prayers, TEMPTATION! The doctrine of Sanctification LEADERDHIP AND PASTORING Helping Pastors and leaders to manage conflicts And Grow peace Beloved friends, today we continue on encouraging ourselves as leaders. Of course, we should all first know a few things about leadership and that pastors are leaders. They are leaders because, essentially: Their titles or positions as ‘pastor’ is from Latin word meaning ‘shepherd’ .
In fact, it may interest you to know that in Psalm 23 verse 1, the most popular psalm,as we say in English, ‘The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want’…in Portuguese and Spanish languages, the verse says, ‘the Lord is my Pastor, nothing shall be lacking for me’We know now through the teaching of John Maxwell that pisitional leadership is the first or lowest level of the five levels of leadership possible.
Leaders must earn confidence of their team and members to move to higher levels As shepherds, they are to protect , guide, feed, care for, and cure sheep.
In Hebrew, the wotprd for shepherd is,רָעָה râ‛âh, raw-aw’A primitive root; to tend a flock, that is, pasture it; intransitively to graze (literally or figuratively); generally to rule; by extension to associate with (as a friend): – X break, companion, keep company with, devour, eat up, evil entreat, feed, use as a friend, make friendship with, herdman, keep [sheep] (-er), pastor, + shearing house, shepherd, wander, waste. Jesus is the ‘Good Shepherd’…
He is so protective so prepared by Trinity to be a substitutionary sacrifice, a propitiation for the sins of humanity. See, Rom 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God. Therefore Christ is the good shepherd. Also 1 Jhn 2:2;4:10. Read also, Joh 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. As pastors, are you a ‘good shepherd’? Or a hireling? See what hireling do: Joh 10:12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep…
In the days of Job, Abraham’s contemporary, a hireling’s interest was essentially financial…business. So he was a mercenary. See, Job 7:1 Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of an hireling? Hireling or mercenaries are most time- or tariffs- conscious. On this Isa 21:16, John Gill comments,’ that is, exactly and precisely, as soon as ever the year is come to an end; for the hireling, when his year is up, instantly demands dismissal from his service,’ Job 7:2 As a servant earnestly desireth the shadow, and as an hireling looketh for the reward of his work:..
Pastor, are your attitudes to the congregation or the fold of Christ like those of a hireling?
Moses was called to deliver Israel out of Egyptian slavery of about 430 years. Read this in, Exo 3:10 Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.Exo 3:11 And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?Exo 3:12 And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.
Joshua was to lead, God’s congregation as requested by Moses..Num 27:16 Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation,Num 27:17 Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD be not as sheep which have no shepherd.Num 27:18 And the LORD said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him; David was a leader, a captain that gave direction and examples while Saul the king was not ! Read this in, 2Sa 5:2
Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a captain over Israel. As a leader, do you know where you are going? Where are you leading God’s people? Quo vadis? ‘A leader must lead, management must manage’ was one of the first policy that I learned in early while doing Administration 101 in Brazil in 1994. If God has not sent you and you run without a message, you may run in vain( Gal 2:2) or run to hell.
But must you mislead innocent lamb of Christ? Hear God in the days of Jeremiah; Jer 23:21 I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.Jer 23:22 But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings. Peter was to love and feed the sheep of Christ… Feeding of lamb and sheep was commanded him by Christ three times in an episode.
. Read, Joh 21:15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.Joh 21:16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.Joh 21:17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. Pastors, generally who adminiser or lead the church, are usually selected,on the basis of spirituality and not because of leadership or administrative skills.
However just as the church has duality of nature, so does the pastor. He is a minister of God, spiritually loaded, yes, but also he is an administrator of a congregation or now of congregations! The pastor must be skilled in leadership, not just in management or at least utilize his collaborators a kind of Joshua for a Moses. The basis of Church workers engagement or commitment is largely voluntary, hence the leadership has to rely largely on moral persuasion to enforce discipline. The five levels of your leadership John C Maxwell The five levels of leadership: Position..Position is the lowest level of leadership—the entry level.
The only influence a positional leader has is that which comes with the job title.
is based entirely on relationships . On the Permission level, people follow because they want to. When you like people and treat them like individuals who have value, you begin to develop influence with them. You develop trust. The environment becomes much more positive—whether at home, on the job, at play, or while volunteering.
Production…One of the dangers of getting to the Permission level is that a leader may be tempted to stop there. But good leaders don’t just create a pleasant working environment. They get things done!
That’s why they must move up to Level 3,
which is based on results . People development …Leaders become great, not because of their power, but because of their ability to empower others. That is what leaders do on Level 4. They use their position, relationships, and productivity to invest in their followers and develop them until those followers become leaders in their own right.
The highest and most difficult level of leadership is the Pinnacle. While most people can learn to climb to Levels 1 through 4, Level 5 requires not only effort, skill, and intentionality, but also a high level of talent. Only naturally gifted leaders ever make it to this highest level. What do leaders do on Level 5? They develop people to become Level 4 leaders. Greater heights From above, you agree with me, dear pastors and leaders, leadership is not just a title or a post but attitude, action, love…it is demonstrative…a show and tell matter! May the Lord Jesus, the Chief Shepherd ( 1 Pet 5:4) help you to have the right attitude and power to shepherd, guard, guide, counsel, care for and cure the lamb and the sheep of God.
What an awful assignment! No wonder then, people are usually scared, even overwhelmed when called to be made Pastor. Moses was, Exod 3:11-12; David was.2 Sam 7:18-19. Solomon was, Gideon was, Judges 6:15. I was too, in 1996. But God strengthens as He did for all the above mentioned pastors. He will fortify you but you must have a shepherd’s attitude…be willing and obedient as required in Isa 1:18-19. Today, let me pause here.We continue, next week, God willing. Jesus says He has left and given his disciples peace in Jhn 14:27, Yet, don’t you as Pastor or even ordinary member witness, today, quarrels, squabbles and indeed even crisis in the Church? These church quarrels vary in their causes, depth or seriousness as well as their duration. Really, that there are conflicts or differences may not be the main concern but how fast you as pastors realize their existence and your attitude towards resolving the conflicts.
You may then begin to wonder why there are still conflicts or quarrels in the Church of God? Today let us enumerate just seven reasons why the Church is probably the most conflictul organuzation on earth.
The heterogenous nature of the Church. All the social and educational classes are represented in the Church. This loigically leads to variety of Views and foster conflicts.
There is no preselection or entry qualifcation. After all, Jesus threw an open invitation to all. See: Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. As pastor, as you received the seekers or converts, you need to train them by Baptismal,or believers’ class.
The dual nature of the Church being a mystic body of Christ, spiritual anan also an organization with all the features of an organization.
Need for leadership skill Pastors, generally who adminiser or lead the church, are usually selected,on the basis of spirituality and not because of leadership or administrative skills. However just as the church has duality of nature, so does the pastor. He is a minister of God, spiritually loaded, yes, but also he is an administrator of a congregation or now of congregations!
The pastor must be skilled in leadership, not just in management or at least utilize his collaborators a kind of Joshua fir a Moses. The basis of Church workers engagement or commitment is largely voluntary, hence the leadership has to rely largely on moral persuasion to enforce discipline. The Church teaches that the rewards of its members are in heaven and that this world is not theirs.
Satan is seeking to attack abd if possible to destroy the Church. Read the words of our Lird Jesus as in, ‘Mat 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.Mat 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.’

This is a must-watch! The 40 mins message, from Our Daddy is so theological and yet full of illustrations, about 20 of the 40 mins on.
Typical of Daddy, the message started with high praise of God, and then garnished with clean jokes and yet well focused on the subject matter. No wonder the Lord rewarded His word with a huge harvest of souls. Enjoy this vintage Daddy sermon.

THE CHRISTMAS STORY- A BIBLICAL AND THEOLOGICAL APPROACH- PART 2
Let us continue our discussion on Christmas. Do you still remember the hymn, The First Christmas the Angels did say was to certain poor shepherds . It is a 16th century English hymn of French origin, but first published in 1833 First Noel, the Angels did say Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay In fields where they lay keeping their sheep On a cold winter’s night that was so deep. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel Born is the King of Israel! They looked up and saw a star Shining in the East beyond them far And to the earth it gave great light And so it continued both day and night. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel Born is the King of Israel!
Why Christmas? We explained this last Sunday. It was essentially, to fulfil Prophecy. …Gal 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,Gal 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
Albert Douglas, in God’s Answers to man’s Questions, Greenville,mSC, 1983, gives four reasons for the Virgin birth of Christ as: To reveal God, Jhn 1:18 To bridge the chasmor gap between Gid and man, 1 Tim 2:5 To save men, Heb 2:14 To rescue the whole creation,Rom 8:19-22 Where? Bethlehem.. But.Why Bethlehem, ? You ask? It had been foretold that God incarnate would come through a small city…the prophet, Micah had foretold it Mat 2:6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. Mat 2:7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
Matthew Henry comments that the humble city was probably chosen as another mark of humility tion for Christ…’It was a mark of humiliation put upon the Lord Jesus that, though he was the Desire of all nations, yet his coming into the world was little observed and taken notice of, his birth was obscure and unregarded: herein he emptied himself, and made himself of no reputation. If the Son of God must be brought into the world, one might justly expect that he should be received with all the ceremony possible, that crowns and sceptres should immediately have been laid at his feet, and that the high and mighty princes of the world should have been his humble servants; The meaning Ir etymology of tge word ‘ Bethlehem’ …It was also called Beth-lehem Ephratah ( Micah 5:2 ), Beth-lehem-judah ( 1 Samuel 17:12 ), and “the city of David” ( Luke 2:4 ). … Bethlehem bears the modern name of Beit-Lahm, i.e., “house of flesh.” … “Easton’s Bible Dictionary”. .Lehem , is bread in Hebrew but also lamb or flesh in Arabic.Whatever your linguistics ppt iachet,nHebrew or Arabic , Bethlehem is the birthplace of Jesus either as: The Bread of life…Joh 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
Will you receive Him today abd receive the bread of life….that gives eternal life? Or The Lamb of God….Joh 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. For whom is Christmas? …To all humanity.Read,..Luk 2:10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. What a season of Hope, and of joy!The Advent.. coming of baby Jesus, God, incarnate ..God joined in our wretched humanity.. The learned, the Wise men …professors …intellectuals, sought and found Jesus…Mat 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Mat 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. Accuracy or language precision is so crucial to vision casting and goal-setting. These are vital requirements in leadership or advanced management. Now, without vision, people will perish! A nation that is sacrificing a world-class language of accuracy, such as the Engkish language for pidgin is likely heading for a visionless…captivity.Nigeria, think straight, now! The ppidgin language generally, a nondescript, amalgam without standard grammar or vocabulary, may probably be emblematic of cloud of indiscipline and academic laziness currently pervading our nation. Must we allow it to continue to fester? Radio stations, TV and dovish media are being bitten by this disastrous linguistic laziness virus! Already our nation is losing ground to other West African commonwealth nations when it comes to English language students coming for studies. Our representatives, our professors are no longer being consulted on questions or challenges on English grammar at international forum!
With all sense of humility, I speak and write my mothertongue,Yoruba, and can express myself fairly well in Igbo, while currently trying to buy and sell in Hausa language, these three being our national languages but English remains our OFFICIAL LANGUAGE! An American – trained Professor, a Nigerian, lamented to me, two days ago, the terribly poor level of English language of doctoral students in Nigeria! Where are we heading, Nigeria? Must we also lose to indiscipline, even the historical relative advantage that we have, such as the English language? Nigeria, please think straight! THE CHRISTMAS STORY- A BIBLICAL AND THEOLOGICAL APPROACH-PART 1 Usually by the FIrst week in November, Of any year, you begin to feel Christmas in the air!
You are asking me how? You hear Christmas Carols, decorations, even in Africa, artificial snow flakes, ivy, etc, with Santa Claus, aka Father Christmas to match. Innthe USA it’s the turkey season. Is it not also the season of fireworks, What is the essence of Christmas? It us God incarnate. It is The Advent…meaning The coming of The Son Of God to Humaninty.
It dates back to the time of the Fall. Read, Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Christmas is God with us , Emnanuel. This was foretold about 700 years by Prophet Isaiah in, Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. In the New Testament, it was confirmed which many religions now need for us to have peace. See, Mat 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Christmas is the celebration of our Salvation.
From what? Yes, salvation from: The Devil, Satan, the Enemy as in above Gen 3 quotation The Fallen nature of yourself, tge flesh carnality ..Joh 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. The World and all its evil…1Jn 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. To give us the Holy Spirit…Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. So Christmas is celebrating the Captain of our salvation…Heb 2:10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
But is Christ still the central Ir the celebrant of your Christmas. Salvation Justification… Regeneration Adoption Imputation, Sanctification . Reconciliation . Propitiation Redemption In cconfessing that God Oso encounter gat God acts, that He us a sending or missionary ,Gid sent his don into the world to accomplish redemption, The Father and the Son sent the Spirit to create the people of God as a missionary people. p. 97
Many have shallow knowledge or none at all .If a believer will study the scriptures as commanded, It is a command to study the word of God 1 Tim 2: 15 2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. The body of Christ..the Church It dies what it is The nature if Christ is defined by bthe mission of God in the world The nature of the church’s the result if the redemptive wirk if Christ Holistic in relating this redemption to all of life. Exists as a full demonstration of a new humanity Attributes of the church’s nature determine the church’s ministry. Van Gelder ( p. 128) The ministry ifvrevonciliation 2 Cir 5:18-19.
The Church ministry is often approached from the perspective of Christ, mthe Cross and tge individual believer p. 129 Monday 5 Dec, 2016 The crucial importance of praising God in prayers One of the greatest theologians Apart from St Augustin of Hippo, an African, Thomas Aquinas, the ‘Doctor Angelico’, a genius of unparalleled prolific status, John Calvin, regarded as the theoligian of Martin Luther both if the Reformation , there is Karl Rahner, also German as Luther, but a Roman Catholic. We all started the Church as a Holy Catholic Church( not necessarily the Roman Catholic Church) still in our Apostles’ Creed. Karl Rahner quotes (showing 1-13 of 13) “When man is with God in awe and love, then he is praying.” “In the days ahead, you will either be a mystic (one who has experienced God for real) or nothing at all.” “The number one cause of atheism is Christians. “Only in love can I find you, my God.
But what is temptation? Jesus Christ taught the dusciplels and you and Me to pray thus: Mat 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Jesus knows that temptation us suchbacserious issue that he wants us to pray against it But what is temptation? To tempt is a word of Latin origin, from Latin temptare, tentare to feel, try.. It is to tempt to try, to test.. However, the difference between testing and tempting is in the aim or objective. Whike test is to confirm your knowledge and ultimately promote you, tempting is to attract or lure you to fall, fail and ultimately get you destroyed.
The Word ‘tempted ‘ occurs 25 times in the Bible. Of these occurrences, 17 are in the NT. Which means 68% . So temptation is largely a New Testament phenomenon. In fact, the first occurrence of the verb ‘tempted’ and the first being to be tempted is Jesus Christ. see Matt 4:1-11. The Greek word is, Let us just look at: the process or the mechanism of temptation and how to overcome it.
The Process if temptation or its mechanism Historically, one of the first temptations in the Bible, took place at Massah, and Meribah in Exodus 17:3-7 Read, Exo 17:7 And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not? Here tge word, ‘tempted’ is in Hebrew,nâsâh,1) to test, try, prove, tempt, assay, put to the proof or test,mPiel),1a1) to test, try,1a2) to attempt, assay, try,1a3) to test, try, prove, tempt. Yo tempt is yo entice, or yo lure a person to do evil, to dinner and we know ultimately to destroy the victim. See, Jhn 10:10.
The Process of temptation or its mechanism Let us read James: 1:13-15 Jas 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: Jas 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Jas 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. So how dies temptation floor people? It is not from God! It is Satan and his agents tgat tempt. Temptation trues to draw you away of irvfrom your own lust. Now lust is an uncontrollable or overpowering attraction.
Lust conceives, may have gestation or pregnancy period, and then gives birth to DEATH! And how to overcome Temptation? The best way to overcome is by the blood if Jesus who has paid the price . See, Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. Geographically re- locate away from the source of temotation.
Physically, run, flee. One of the most rampant temptations is fornication. 1Co 10:14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry. 1Co 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. Foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. 1Ti 6:11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. whatvarebrgesebrhings? Tgey are in two preceding verses…1Ti 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.Fight the Good Fight of Faith Pray to be delivered from temptation as first referenced in Matt 6: 13
Resolve not to spoil yourself with the King’s meat… Very few could resist a woman’s offer of her body, especially when she is your boss’s wife! But JOSEPH did in See Gen 39:9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?
Dan 1:8…Dan 1:8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Today, you know temotation when it’s enticing you. The Yoruba say for your eyes not yo see evil, mthe solution is to run away from it. I recall tge Lord’s warning: Akthough you may be spirual, but since you are still biological, mthe refire be logical: flee temptations.
The doctrine of Sanctification Sanctification The word,’sanctification’ is a very crucial word in Christianity. Indeed, it is one if the central doctrines of Christianity. It is etymologically of Latin origin, ‘ sanctificare’. It comes from prefix, Sanctus, to be hallowed, saint ,holy; and suffix, ..ficare..to be made..to render. So simply put, sanctification is to be made holy, godly, separated. It us interesting that in French the same word is often rendered as ‘justice’ . It is equally known as ‘droiture’ righteousness. Today, Let us do Just textual analysis of the word , sanctification from its only five occurrences in the New Testament.
Meanwhile!M hear what R.C. Sproul one of the foremost theologians says, ‘We are to seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness. We notice that Jesus said that we are to seek these things first. The word that is translated as “first” here is the Greek word protos , which does not mean simply first in a series of many things. Rather, the word carries the force of priority . A more accurate translation of Matthew 6:33 would be “Seek ye first, above all else , the kingdom of God and His righteousness.” Seek the kingdom. Seek righteousness. These are the priorities of the Christian life.’ ( R. C. Sproul,Pleasing God: Discovering the meaning and Importance of Sanctification. classic Theology, sept.,2012. ) The word sanctification occurs five times in the New Testament.
I am fascinated by the occurrence in 1 Thessalonians ch 4 verse 3. It says that, 1Th 4:3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: Here the Bible, which us God’s Word says: Sanctification is the will of God And it us to abstain from firnication. So this means, if you are sanctified you will abstain from fornication Also, it means if you are firnication get, you are not sanctified, period. Now in chronological order of occurrence in the New Testament, let us examine further,Sanctification as follows: 1Co 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:.
Here simply, it means: Jesus has been made into sanctification Here sanctification is on equal footing with virtues such as: wisdom, righteousness, and redemption. These are names given unto Christ at one time or the other in the Bible. (See,for wisdom, 1Co 1:24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. For righteousness, see Rev 19:11. Then comes, 1Th 4:4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;
Here, sanctification is an attitude,a class of Behaviour, a value. Here, it is in the same category with honour So a sanctified person, is an honourable person. Then I can deduce that an unsanctified person should be a dishonorable person. In the fourth of the five occurrence of the word, ‘sanctification’ in the New Testament, i.e, 2Th 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: You have been chosen unto sanctification by God Because you are chosen unto sanctification, you are bound, i.e., you are under divine obligation to thank God for it.
Sanctification of the spirit and belief of the truth ( say, saving faith) are the agencies of salvation. Here, sanctification and belief in the truth are thges coduit pipe that convey salvation to all human beings. Here sanctification of the spirit and faith in the truth belong to the same Category.
Peter, says of sanctification, …1Pe 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. You are an elect of God according to foreknowledge of God through sanctification of the Spirit.
The foreknowledge of God the Father makes us elect, chosen unto salvation through sanctification. Next time we shall examine whether or not: We have already been sanctified ? Still being sanctified? We shall be finally sanctified? Why is it difficult or easy to be sanctified on earth? Meanwhile, let us pray: Father forgive my sins and influence acts By the blood of Jesus shed on the Cross of Calvary, sanctify me in Jesus name, Amen
Sunday 30/10/16 CLOTHING OUR PASTOR AND PRIESTS, PROPERLY!
Let us today examine pastoral ethics. The Priest, or Pastor is for beauty and for Glory Exo 28:2 And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty. Above verse is a record of the Command of God Almighty to Moses, the First political and theocratic leader of liberated Israel from Egyptian slavery as recorded in Exodus chapters 12-15 It was given in favour of Aaron, the first Chief priest of Israel. The name Aaron itself in Hebrew, means, ‘light bringer’, brother of Moses, a Levite and the first high priest. But, do our priests or pastors bring light today? The light of the word of God or even a reflection of the holy life of Christ? Our Lord Jesus Christ, who is God in person, afterwards commanded, Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Pastor, priest, bishop/ elder, deacon/ness, apostle, is your light shining at all? Do you viaduct members? Do you even call them? Let us remember, you can hardly lead well thosee you don’t love! ‘For glory and for beauty’ The word glory here is ‘kabod’. Here it means, : glory, honour, abundance , riches, , splendour, dignity, reputation, reverence. Do our pastors or even Bishops or even Apostle reflect or mirror any of these qualities? Do you know that the Church or the congregation or the laity was instructed to provide for the garment of Aaron under inspiration of God. Such people who clothe and beautify the life of their priests were described by God as being ‘wuse- hearted’. Read God!s instruction in, Exo 28:3 And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office. As members of the Church or the laity are you making garments for our priest for glory and for beauty? In terms of physical appearance, priests or pastors are never to appear slovenly or scruffy. They are ambassadors of and fir Christ! (2 Cor 5:20).
As a career ambassador, I know that is part of professional ethics, to place serious premium on appearance.We say, you will be addressed the way you are dressed. Remember the King’s messenger is the king of messengers. Now talking about spiritual garment, our garments irvadorning should reflect our role model, Jesus Christ….1Pe 3:3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
This means, avoid public overdressing, be humble but presentable. Are you a priest, adeacon(ness), pastor, prophet, Bishop or apostle? Are you dressed in the holiest garment of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. There is a book coming up on Church protocol,my follow up on Protocol For Life that gives guidelines on this aspect.Gal5:22-23.
Pastors and priests, hear what the elder Pastor Peter, the Apostle counsels us: 1Pe 5:2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; If we feed the sheep,we can expect to legitimately drink their milk and enjoy their warm wool. Let us read,…1Co 9:13 Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?1Co 9:14 Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel 7/10/16 VISION NOT TELEVISION OR CATCH A VISION TO LIVE FOR! Vision oh, Vision! The Almighty God says in tge Holy Bible, ‘ my people perish for lack of knowledge. Also at a time among God’s chosen people vision was scarce and the people suffered in captivity untill aay oung buy, SAMUEL brought vision.
Read, 1Sa 3:1 And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision. You need vision! Hellen Keller, a blind but successful lady, when asked what could be worse than being blind, replied, ‘to have sight without vision’ . John Maxwell reports on this, ‘HELEN KELLER WAS ASKED ONE TIME WHAT would be worse than being born blind. She quickly replied, “To have sight and no vision.” I’ve found that if you ask successful people what has really helped them get where they are in life, invariably they’ll talk about a goal, a dream, a mission, a purpose—something that has been motivating them throughout the years to become what they have finally become.
Tragically, our world is full of what I would call mundane men, people who see only what is immediate. They only reach out for things they can tangibly put their hands on. They go for the convenient. They never look beyond themselves, and they never look at what they could be. A mundane man may be a truck driver, a bank president, or a schoolteacher. Mundane men can be found in every profession. A mundane man is really someone who lacks depth because he lacks vision. The poorest person in the world is not the person who doesn’t have a nickel. The poorest person in the world is the one who doesn’t have a vision. If you don’t have a dream—a goal and a purpose in life—you’re never going to become what you could become.’ You must know, there so many people who see physically but have no vision.
So what is vision? I define it as an internal imagination, a revelation of a future idea or a goal that must inspire you and henceforth must drive your entire life activities or ambition. It us a dream, a target in life. From my above definition, you must note that: Your vision belongs to you…it us oersonal by origin Your vision must be visible; it us a revelation Your vision must be attractive Your vision must be inspiring To endure it must be interesting or inclusive of others Your vision must be shared or divisible to others for it to live or last. HOW DO YOU NURTURE AND CULTURE YOUR VISION TO LIFE?
I agree with John C. Maxwell ( Be All You can be. Colorado Springs CO: 2007), that the process of catching and implementing a vision is in stages. Hear him: DREAM STAGES When you receive a vision that could change your life or you’re grabbed by a dream that could really help you become what you want to be, there’s a natural sequence that happens. First, there’s the “I thought it” stage. That’s when a dream just flashes by. Could it be? Maybe this is for me. What would happen if I did that? That’s the “thought it” stage. Every person goes through this stage. Probably not a week goes by in which we don’t dream. Could this be me? What would happen if I did this? We go from the “I thought it” stage to the
“I caught it” stage. After we think about some of the dreams that we have and the visions that God gives us, we get excited, and we begin to talk about that dream and see ourselves in it. I think everyone goes through these first two stages.
But stage three makes the difference between the person who will be successful and the person who won’t be successful. It’s what I call the “I bought it” stage. After we catch that dream, there’s a time when we have to put a deposit down on it.’ Are you positive? Usually, when you catch a vision, protect it jealously because if vision killers, dampeners and begat ive people.
Nurture your Vision Furstregustrars and catch nut virally before you share it. John Maxwell in his above mentioned book says, ‘You’ll receive positive reinforcement. Life is like a mirror; what you show is what you see; what you put in is what you get out. When you encourage others, you’ll find that they will encourage you.
Attitudes are contagious.’ Heaven, oh heaven! I wish all Nigerians and their friends a happy 56th Independence anniversary, today!! We pray fir a better Nigeria, strength fir our dear President and courage to do justice for all. Heaven, O , Heavens! When you eventually die, where will you go? Are you sure of heaven? My dear friend, death is not the end or terminus of your life! It is simply put, biologically, separation of your body from your soul! Theologically, death is a temporary end to this body, an earthly casket, a provisional home while the soul goes to its maker either in condemnation to hell or in eternal bliss in paradise with God. I believe, it is appointed unto human beings to die once, after which is judgment. See, The Holy Bible, Hebrews 9:27. But just what will the judgment be fir you after this life? My dear friend, you do have to prepare your case if you have a judgment to face, don’t you? Where is heaven? Where is the way there? I believe some of you FaceBook friends or readers may find this message weird or senseless or even superstitious. But it is evidently clear and a settled fact that you have to die at best after 100 years of your birth on earth. Most Nigerians hardly make 100 years on earth. If they live to be 85 then they are considered lucky and believed to have reached a ripe old age at 90 years.
There are only two ways for your soul after death: Heaven or hell. The choice is yours. But you have to make the choice right now , if you have not yet done so. Even those who go to Church how many times have you heard a sermon entirely dedicated to heaven or eternity? Are your pastor’s sermons not based on prosperity, good living, good jobs; all earth- bound, or at best deliverance from demons? since 1993, in Brasilia when the Lord reminded me of this serious shortcoming in sermons if churches, I seize opportunities to preach about heaven whenever I have it.
What is heaven? The Webster dictionary defines heaven as, ‘the place where God lives and where good people go after they die according to some religions, something that is very pleasant or good: the sky’ Now,what does the Bible say about heaven? The word ‘heaven’ occurs 583 times in the English Bible. In Hebrew, the original language of the Bible, it is, שׁמה / שׁמיםshâmayim / shâheaven, heavens, sky, visible heavens, sky, as abode of the stars, as the visible universe, the sky, atmosphere, etc,1b) Heaven (as the abode of God) John Hagee in his book, The Three Heavens, Angels, Demons And what lies Ahead( Tennesseee: Worthy BOoks, 2015 ) says about heaven, ‘Use the word heaven and it evokes images of a paradise, a place of eternal bliss and perfect happiness . . . but there is so much more! Let us begin our supernatural journey through the Three Heavens by first exploring what the Word of God and science say about the First Heaven.
Then we will expose Satan’s diabolical tactics in the Second Heaven and how they impact each one of us. Finally, we will reveal the deep riches of the Third Heaven, which in the end will be the eternal home of those who choose Christ as Savior and Lord. Most people believe there is only one heaven—the place where God lives with His holy angels.
However, the truth is that our God has no limitation on earth or in heaven. He is omnipresent and omnipotent and has universal power and supremacy over all of His creation—which includes all three heavens! Now you see, that our earth is only a very tiny speck of the universe created by God. John Hagee, op cit, further says, ‘The First Heaven contains the sun, moon, and stars, yet it is a minuscule glimpse of God’s creative majesty (Genesis 1). It was this majesty that inspired the songwriter to pen the words of one of the most celebrated songs in the history of Christendom, “How Great Thou Art”: O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder, Consider all the worlds Thy hands hath made . . . …We have all observed the splendor of the First Heaven and probably wondered about its origin. Although there are many scientific theories regarding the formation of the sun, moon, and stars, we have only one eyewitness account—that Eyewitness is the Great I AM.
When I listened to this bit by John Hagee, I was inspired, knowing that I am the adopted Son of the Sun of Righteousness and I am expected to rise and shine! ( Isa 60:1 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee )! Mat 13:43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. I was inspired to put this together for you to read. We have a lot said about heaven in the Bible . But let us just look at the following aspects: Creation by God. See, Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Inhabitants of heaven. There are hosts of heaven. The Trinity: God the Father, Son and and tge Holy Spirit. Read, Will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven [the First and Second Heavens] and the heaven of heavens [the Third Heaven] cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built. (1 Kings 8:27)
Remember God also created hell but for Satan and those who would follow him.( see, On the endorsement of the Book, All You want yo know about Hell by Steve Gregg (Nashville, Tennessee, by Thomas Nelson ,2013.) Danny Lehmann says, ‘ the reader is that if he/she is a good Berean and checks Steve’s treatment of the subject with Wesley’s Quadrilateral of Scripture, Reason, Tradition and Experience, they will acknowledge in humility that the issue is not only eternally significant but is also not easily given to sound bites, one-liners and cavalier dismissals, regardless of the view that one might hold.’ Here we intend to follow in part the Wesley’s Quadrilateral: the scripture, Orthodox Tradition, Experience and Reason. Of ourse, I believe and affirm that, Wesley insisted that scripture is the first authority and contains the only measure whereby all other truth is tested. The church and other orthodox traditions. Testimonies of those after life or near death situations. Why heaven is important to you.
