God chooses leaders. Leaders are sent on a mission/s.Moses was sent to liberate Israel from slavery Exod 3:..Exo 3:10 Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
Though most of the time during his trial Hesus kept silent but admitted He was a king, a leader. See, Mrk 15:2.
There are common responsibilities to leaders, ministers and followers. Both the leader and memboers are called by God to Holiness, fruitfulness, gealingbthe sick, deliverance from Satan and his powers, mark 16:17-18, evangelism or soul-winning, Matt 28:19-20. On holiness, see, Lev 11:44,1 Pet 1:15-16. In terms of worship, read, Mic 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? In terms of faith and fruits of the spirit read:
For faith and fruits read,
Jas 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.James 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?Jas 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
For fruit of the Holy Spirit read, Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Obey the leaders …Jos 24:14 Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.Jos 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD…..The people responded to the call of leadership,…Jos 24:24 And the people said unto Joshua, The LORD our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.
Jos 24:25 So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem…
LEADERS INVOLVE THE PEOPLE BY INSPIRATION….
A famous expert on leadership principles, JohnnC. Maxwell in the 21Irrefutabke laws of Leadership , says
1. THE LAW OF THE LID Leadership Ability Determines a Person’s Level of Effectiveness Brothers Dick and Maurice came as close as they could to living the American Dream—without making it. Instead a guy named Ray did it with the company they had founded. It happened because they didn’t know the Law of the Lid.
. THE LAW OF INFLUENCE The True Measure of Leadership Is Influence—Nothing More, Nothing Less Abraham Lincoln started with the rank of captain, but by the time the war was over, he was a private. What happened? He was a casualty of the Law of Influence.I add , Later he rose to brigadier and president of the USA.
THE LAW OF ADDITION Leaders Add Value by Serving Others What kind of a Fortune 500 CEO works on a folding table, answers his own phone, visits hourly employees as often as possible, and is criticized by Wall Street for being too good to his employees? The kind of leader who understands the Law of Addition.
Pray for them…
Paul asked for prayers..2Th 3:1 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:. Remember the Thessalonian church was the youngest infant church, yet Paul asked them to pray for him.
Paul’s request above may be lesson in humility and the importance of needs to pray for leaders…..
.1Ti 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;1Ti 2:2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
Leadership is a choice good or bad followership is a choice…Deu 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
It is following Christ,…Mat 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.Mat 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. Also Mrkm8:34, Lk 9:23.
Jesus selected disciples and trained them.Mar 3:14 And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, Do the same..train…Mar 4:10 And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.
Mar 4:11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:
Mar 3:15 And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:
Obedience or Disobedience: matters of life and death…
Obedience or disobedience: matter of blessings or curses…Deu 28:1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
Deu 28:2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.Deu 28:3 Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.
Deu 28:15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:Deu 28:16 Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field.
Deu 28:17 Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store.

MY WIFE IS A WITNESS.. God works in precision even to the seconds
Leaders must imitate or emulate Christ-1Co 11:1. Hear apostle Paul, Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
Leaders have greater responsibilities…Jas 3:1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
Your action or inaction have consequences. There are rewards or sanctions. Heaven or hell is eternal….Mat 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Leaders remember your calling….Your vision and goal…1Co 10:33 Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.
Background Israel comprised 12 tribes.10 in tge North calkedcIsrael andcEphraim with tge south called Judah..Judah (Hebrew: יְהוּדָה – often transliterated Yehudah) was the fourth son of the Biblical patriarch Jacob (Israel).
However, on the accession of Rehoboam, Solomon’s son, in c. 930 BCE, the ten northern tribes under the leadership of Jeroboam from the Tribe of Ephraim split from the House of David to create the Northern Kingdom in Samaria. The Book of Kings is uncompromising in its low opinion of its larger and richer neighbor to the north, and understands its conquest by Assyria in 722 BCE as divine retribution for the Kingdom’s return to idolatry.[13]

The tribes of Judah and Benjamin remained loyal to the House of David. These tribes formed the Kingdom of Judah, which existed until Judah was conquered by Babylon in c. 586 BCE and the population deported. Judah fourth son of Leah, disliked…Gen 29:35 And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.

When the Jews returned from Babylonian exile, residual tribal affiliations were abandoned, probably because of the impossibility of reestablishing previous tribal land holdings. However, the special religious roles decreed for the Levis and Kohanim were preserved, but Jerusalem became the sole place of worship and sacrifice among the returning exiles, northerners and southerners alike.

TODAY WE LOOK AT KINGS, SPECIFICALLY FIRST TWO KINGS OF ISRAEL: SAUL, DAVID, SOLOMON.
LESSONS FROM THEM:
On Kings, by Wiersbe Bible Studyb
Series ..Being good stewards of God’s gift..he writes…’Introduction to 1 Kings The Blame Game An ancient proverb says, “A bad workman always blames his tools.” William Bennett, a contemporary writer, said, “Responsible persons are mature people who have taken charge of themselves and their conduct, who own their actions and own up to them—who answer for them.” Finding someone else to blame, denying responsibility, and hiding behind lies seem to be the order of the day. A comedian gets laughs when he says, “The devil made me do it.” In contrast, President Harry Truman had a sign on his desk that said, “The buck stops here.” He wasn’t afraid to take responsibility. “If you can’t stand the heat,” he said, “get out of the kitchen!” David knew what it meant to be a responsible leader, and so did his son Solomon, until the closing years of his reign. Responsibility After Solomon’s death, the nation divided into the ten tribes of the northern kingdom of Israel and the two tribes of Judah. Following Solomon, only eight could be called good kings and responsible men who sought to obey God.’
Lack of education…indiscipline,,inadequate planning .. my wife has the gift of planning…she gave safe -the -date cards about one year ahead of her 50th birthday thanksgiving service in NY in 2009

Lessons.
Avoid autocratic leadership
Avoid laissez faire…don’t rock the boat…members do as they please. Where there is no direction, no control crisis or crash is the only result guaranteed.
Democratic…shared governance…biblical reasonable, spiritual
Warning
Saul did not end well. His lineage perished..one day on mount Gilboah he lost his elder children
David handed over to Solomon…lineage sustained.
Next is SOLOMON,
Disobedience finished Saul…
God rejected Saul as in,..1Sa 16:1 And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.
Spirit of God deoarted from Him….1Sa 16:14 But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.1Sa 16:15 And Saul’s servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.
David made serious errors caused by adultery..2Sa 12:10 Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.

SAUL
The Origin of your leadership …Not of God. It was to placate human fears and environmental fashions.
1Sa 8:4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah,
1Sa 8:5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.
1Sa 8:6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.
1Sa 8:7 And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.
If Saul came to power at the displeasure or in disfavour of God, how can it be well with his kingdom?

If God did not anoint you how can you end well? Ask for grace to end well. Samson. ended a blind buffoon, because of sexual perversion…Jdg 16:21 But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.

Today, .our films are spreading perversion…! Worldly unchristian films, fashions should not lead us.. we are the leaders.. Dove vision and Dunamis TV etc are helpful…
God anointed David from the wilderness…1Sam 16:11-13, See Ps 113:,Psa 113:7 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill;
Also see, 2Sa 7:8 Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel:2Sa 7:9 And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth.

Style…inclusive
Special emphasis…Psa 89:20 I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:Psa 89:21 With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him. Psa 89:22 The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him.
David style:
consulted every leader….1Ch 13:1 And David consulted with the captains of thousands and hundreds, and with every leader.
Diplomatic language..respectful…1Ch 13:2 And David said unto all the congregation of Israel, If it seem good unto you, and that it be of the LORD our God, let us send abroad unto our brethren every where, that are left in all the land of Israel, and with them also to the priests and Levites which are in their cities and suburbs,
Was inclusive.. that they may gather themselves unto us:
Loved God …David would not rest until he built a house for God…“Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed; I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids, until I find out a place for the Lord, a habitation for the mighty God of Jacob” (Ps. 132:3–5).
Loved the fellowship withGod 1Ch 13:3 And let us bring again the ark of our God to us: for we enquired not at it in the days of Saul.
Consensus builder…1Ch 13:4 And all the congregation said that they would do so: for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.
Challenges and
He started reform but could not sustain it…jealousy of David..
Saul’s End…dined with the witch of endor…. 1 Sam 28:7,24-25.
Successor. His lineage ended it all.. David
David’s errors:
Unauthorized census…Satan pushed David …1Ch 21:1 And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel….Pride to boost his ego? If you are up..be watchful …Jesus Markm13:37 warned
1Co 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Lust from house top..Adultery with Bathsheba… Murdered orvassasinated aHuriah …2 Sam 11:15-17
The thing displeased the Lord.. 2Sa 11:27 And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.
Requested by Israelites in admiration of idolatrous philistines and other Neighbour’s.
In frustration with corruption of Samuel’s priests children.
Samuel warned against Saul oppression
Head and shoulders taller- physical appearance only?…1Sa 9:2 And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people… Comment by John Gill…and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he; meaning not for the endowments of his mind, or his moral character and behaviour. There might be as good, or better men than he, on such accounts, but for his outward appearance, his bodily shape, and the dignity of his person:…Looks can be deceptive..
Warrior defender of the …war against Nahash for inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead…1Sa 11:5 And, behold, Saul came after the herd out of the field; and Saul said, What aileth the people that they weep? And they told him the tidings of the men of Jabesh.1Sa 11:6 And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly.1Sa 11:7 And he took a yoke of oxen, and hewed them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the coasts of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whosoever cometh not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his oxen. And the fear of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.
Shallow spiritually….inability to consult God for direction … a leader needs direct and effective link with God. …
David was a praise and worship singer to God…He started by .. helping Saul …Sa 16:22 And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favour in my sight.1Sa 16:23 And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
2Sa 23:1 Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said, 2Sa 23:2 The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.2Sa 23:3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.
Psa 6:5 For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?
Remember at the beginning, Saul had the Holy Spirit…1Sa 11:6 And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly.
Saul even fought a battle against the Amalekites….1Sa 11:11 And it was so on the morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in the morning watch, and slew the Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that they which remained were scattered, so that two of them were not left together.
The Kingdom Is Renewed.1Sa 11:12 And the people said unto Samuel, Who is he that said, Shall Saul reign over us? bring the men, that we may put them to death.1Sa 11:13 And Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death this day: for to day the LO
Feared people’s reaction…1Sa 15:24 And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice
Impatience…. David waited oatientky…in orayers while David was a strategist..A strategists..2 Sam 20:6
David consulted in ephod even in trouble…1Sa 23:9 And David knew that Saul secretly practised mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring hither the ephod..Eire Saul was Not famous for priestly ephod as David. David wore ephod
Saul relished populism.outlawed witches… David a man who took decision and responsibilities
When pushed, Saul consulted witch of endor…city’s name means, source of the ancestorsi.e., idolatry.1Sam 28:7. David when in difficult situation, repented, opted for the Lord.
Not a man of his word..promised a daughter to David and took her back…1Sa 18:19 But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul’s daughter should have been given to David, that she was given unto Adriel the Meholathite to wife..Also see, 1Sa 25:44 But Saul had given Michal his daughter, David’s wife, to Phalti the son of Laish, which was of Gallim.
Ruthless with Priests, massacred them …killed 85 priests in pursuit of David…1Sa 22:18 And the king said to Doeg, Turn thou, and fall upon the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and slew on that day fourscore and five persons that did wear a linen ephod.
Saul’s Relentless pursuit of David…to kill David Pursue God…prepared for God’s tabernacle…More to Consider: As he anticipated the building of the temple, David had set aside some of the spoils of battle for the Lord (1 Chron. 22:14). This amounted to 3,750 tons of gold; 37,500 tons of silver; and an unmeasured amount of bronze, iron, wood, and stone. All this wealth he presented publicly to Solomon (1 Chron. 29:1–5). David also added his own personal treasure and then invited the leaders of the nation to contribute as well (1 Chron. 29:1–10). The final totals were 4,050 tons of gold and over 38,000 tons of silver, not to mention thousands of tons of bronze and iron as well as precious stones. It was a great beginning for a great project. What’s the purpose of including this kind of detail in Scripture? What does it tell us about God’s preparation of His people? About God’s expectations for His people? About planning? About generosity?
God will always send helpers, warriors to protect and defend the leaders raised by God…1Ch 12:1 Now these are they that came to David to Ziklag, while he yet kept himself close because of Saul the son of Kish: and they were among the mighty men, helpers of the war.
Cursed his children and wife..and his lineage…1Sa 20:30 Then Saul’s anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him, Thou son of the perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thine own confusion, and unto the confusion of thy mother’s nakedness? 1Sa 20:31 For as long as the son of Jesse liveth upon the ground, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. Wherefore now send and fetch him unto me, for he shall surely die.
David quickly repents and genuinely too…2Sa 12:13 And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.
2Sa 12:14 Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.David’s Child Dies
2Sa 12:15 And Nathan departed unto his house. And the LORD struck the child that Uriah’s wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.
David feared touching the anointed of God even when Saul was seeking his life and Gid seemed to have delivered Saul into David’s hand..1Sam 24:3-7

THE FIVE PRACTICES COMMON TO SUCCESSFUL LEADERS:

Solomon
1. Why was the building of a temple so important to the Israelites? How did God prepare Solomon for the role of temple builder? (See 1 Chron. 22; 28.) What did the temple signify to the Israelites? What is an appropriate parallel for the temple in today’s world?
Origin: Came to power by Mother’s machination..used probably unsubstantiated Davidic promise …1Ki 1:13 Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him, Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then doth Adonijah reign?1Ki 1:14 Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the king, I also will come in after thee, and confirm thy words.
Was ruthless with Adonijah
Built the Temple
Built his palace longer time than the Temple
Had great wisdom which he asked of the Lord
Climax..judgment if mother of a d baby disputed by harlots mothers….1Ki 3:26 Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.1Ki 3:27 Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof.1Ki 3:28 And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.
Brought prosperity …1Ki 10:21 And all king Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold; none were of silver: it was nothing accounted of in the days of Solomon. Also, 1Ki 10:27 And the king made silver to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he to be as the sycomore trees that are in the vale, for abundance.
His undoing.. loved strange women
Given to sex..700 wives and 300 concubines…1Ki 11:3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart.
His strange wives brough strange gods.. Sidonians and Egyptians…1Ki 11:4 For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father. 1Ki 11:5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.1Ki 11:6 And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father.
Only one son, Rehoboam..who divided the kingdom losing 80%!of David’s Kingdom.
CONCLUSIONS:
Neither Saul nor David is perfect.
The only perfect King is Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. See, Rev 19:16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
In the end the major difference between King David who ended well and King Saul were essentially:
David was part of divine covenant and therefore was elected by God( Ps 89:3, 1 Sam 16:13) while Saul was essentially the wish of people (1Sam 8:5) .Saul ended his royal lineage by eating ‘the last supper’ with a witch at Endor( meaning, fountain of the ancestors) in 1 Sam 28:25.
Also David was a king that takes responsibility while Saul indulges in trading blames.(1 Sam 17: 36)
Saul, was a jealous and ruthless pursuer of rivals (1Sam 24:10-26. ) while David was generous and relentlessly pursued God.
David always sought counsel from God, being a prophet, priest and a King that wore the Ephod (1 Sam 30:7). Saul, on the contrary, admitted that he ‘because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.’ In 1 Sam 15:24.

n/s.Moses was sent to liberate Israel from slavery Exod 3:..Exo 3:10 Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
Though most of the time during his trial Hesus kept silent but admitted He was a king, a leader. See, Mrk 15:2.
There are common responsibilities to leaders, ministry ers and followers.

God anointed David from the wilderness…1Sam 16:11-13, See Ps 113:,Psa 113:7 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill;
